Following a car crash, standup for yourself, don’t be afraid to talk to somebody with experience handling car accident injuries
“Let him know what’s happened. Let him help you and guide you so that the outcome is a better experience for you than just not doing anything at all.” – Dana Cich
Dana and Joe Cich tell their story following their own car accident and encourage others to stand up for themselves. They suggest injury victims of auto accidents not to be afraid to just talk to somebody about how to deal with insurance companies and medical bills.

Dana: My daughter and I were coming from a hair appointment, where she had gotten her hair done. We were driving home. She started to pull through the intersection and we were just slammed right into. He was going 50 miles per hour, through the stop sign. Our car was flipped around so it looked like it was going the other way.
I stood there for a minute and then when I went to go walk, I felt this weakness like I had no strength in my pelvic area. When we got to the hospital, I couldn’t even get out of the ambulance. They had to load me down. Right then and there, Joe and I figured we’d have to do something because I’m not going to just bounce back. I thought we needed to talk to a lawyer to see where we were sitting at that point.
Joe: In our consultation with Mark and the more times we talked to him, the more comfortable we got. Just talking to him put our minds at ease.
Dana: Yeah, he told us when we had our consultation that we definitely had a case. That made us feel a lot better. That made us feel a lot better and that we weren’t over stepping. He told us, ‘this is a case and I think we can win this’.
Mark: I grew up just south of here. South of the Mississippi River and I found my calling. When I came out of law school I was a prosecuting attorney. I had a family member get hurt very badly in a car crash. When I went and visited him as he lay in a hospital bed, in a coma, with a broken neck, I watched how the insurance companies treated his parents. That’s when I decided I was going to stop being a prosecutor and practice exclusively, helping people who are injured, as a result of something that they didn’t do wrong.
“When the chips are down, I like to be there for them. That’s what got me into this to begin with” – Mark W. Malzahn, Injury Attorney
I’m exclusively an injury attorney. Most people who have come to see me have already sustained an injury or experienced an injury and it’s usually a result of a car crash. Often times, the reason that they need help is that they are dealing with insurance companies for the first time. I think it’s very helpful to have an experienced lawyer, who knows his way around the courtroom, handling your case. Handling case after case over 30 years, it’s only made me better. It’s made me better for the benefit of my clients. My clients deserve that because they need somebody on their side. Anoka county residents and sherburne county residents, and north metro county residents are my kind of people. It’s just that I can relate with people who work hard for a living and they need help. When the chips are down, I like to be there for them. That’s what got me into this to begin with.
Experience you need, justice you deserve. The justice, I think, comes from somebody who believes in your case and will advocate on your behalf, and who’s had the experience dealing with the insurance companies for over three decades. You bring that all together, and that’s where ‘justice’ comes in.
Dana: Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
Joe: Don’t be afraid to talk to somebody.
Dana: He (Mark) knows what to do and where to go, whereas we wouldn’t. We probably would have been stuck paying $40,000 worth of medical bills. Let him know what’s happened. Let him help you and guide you so that the outcome is a better experience for you than just not doing anything at all.
